Oh, Internet ...

Hi Guys. I thought I'd share this email my friend just sent me about this PIPA thing that is before Congress. Here it is:

I'm not sure if you've heard, but the US Government is trying to pass a bill that will ultimately bring censorship of the internet. Several sites, a major one being Wikipedia, have gone dark today in protest of these new bills.

This is a really important issue. Although most of you do, some of you may not realize what this actually means for the web. Let me lay out this scenario for you in hopes that you will understand how this affects you:

Every one of us Googles, most of us do it several times a day. If this bill passes, that will be a thing of the past, and I’ll tell you how: when you need information, all you have to do is go to Google, type in your search and click go, right?

Wrong; this law will make it so some of the websites, I’d go so far as to say most of the websites, that come up when you search are blocked, for reasons such as supposed copyright infringement.

The problem with that is it destroys the spirit of the internet, which is free information for all.
Forget posting quotes, funny pictures, etc. to Facebook. Forget watching movie clips on Youtube, forget looking up your favorite band on Wikipedia, and forget about writing your opinions about other people’s ideas on Blogger. Just forget the internet as we know it. Forget it completely.

Imagine a world where the information isn’t freely available. Just imagine.

***Note that including these videos in this post would be illegal if PIPA passed.***

Please sign this petition against these bills. Let’s see if we can't get Congress to listen: https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/
Hope you all sign and pass on this important information.

Hugs!
