Monthly Weight Loss and Pictures

Hey, everyone.

Well, there will be no pictures this month.

Why? you ask.

Well, because not only did I not lose anything but I gained 3.2 lbs. I weighed-in this morning at 166.2.

My weight has been going crazy all month. I could have starved myself the past week to make weigh-in but I refuse to do that. I was really upset when I had made it three weeks through the month and had not only not lost anything but gained.

I talked with a few friends and family and they said, and I have to agree, that I've hit a plateau. That mixed with the fact that I've been lifting weights has to be what it is.

I haven't changed my eating habits, except that I eat breakfast everyday now (and it's always healthy). I haven't been slacking on my exercise at all either. In fact, I think I've stepped it up.

This is the first month that I've gained. I was really embarrassed to have to tell everyone but then I got over it. I've worked so hard and come so far, I have nothing to be embarrassed about. Hitting a plateau had to happen sometime, I guess. I just don't want you guys to think I'm slacking because I'm telling you, that is NOT that case.

I'm not sure what to do, except keep on keeping on and not get discouraged. If any of you have any tips or anything to help me get over this plateau, I'd love to hear them. A friend told me I need to start confusing my muscles because my body has gotten used to all of the cardio and weights that I always do. I'm not sure what to do because I do such a wide variety of cardio and weight stuff already. We'll see.

Please keep me in prayer this coming month for wisdom, guidance and patience to get over this plateau.

Thank you! :)

Love,

  1. First of all, you look fabulous! Do you have a final goal weight that you are trying to achieve?

The usual approach to getting over a plateau is to mix up, and add to, the types of exercises you are doing. It sounds like you are already doing that! My approach when I was in similar situations was to increase my day-to-day activity level. I would try to walk to the store, watch less TV, move around while I talked on the phone, clean the house...anything to keep my body moving.

I also found that group exercise classes were helpful to push me beyond what I was doing on my own. The instructors are also very good at giving advice. They can provide honest feedback, where it is sometimes difficult to be honest with ourselves.

I hope this helps! You are an inspiration to many :)

    1. Thank you, Jocelyn!

Not really but I think I'll end up around 140-145.

Thank you for the advice! I agree with you about the classes. I do Zumba already and love it but am thinking of giving Body Pump and Spin a try.

  2. Don't get discouraged! I've gone through a couple of plateaus now. It is always frustrating. One lasted 6 weeks! Try eating some different foods. Different exercise is great too. I second the group classes. I started trying different classes at my gym and that helped break the last plateau I broke through. The main thing is don't give up. If you keep moving forward your body will have to surrender the weight eventually. It helps me to mentally declare "siege" on a certain weight number. lol. Also, sometimes as women our hormones mess with our weight too and could be hiding what's really going on. Keep going! You're doing great!

  4. I look fwd to your posts. Its super encouraging to read about othees who find strength in the Lord. I hit a several week plateau in January and was floored by the sermon that I heard midway through called "getting unstuck" oh, He works in mysterious ways!! I had added yoga and was running a little more and so I supped my calories for three days in case my body thought it was in starvation mode. And wallah! A week later, i started losing again. Dont get discouraged, God is with YOU!

  5. Hi Amy! I love your blog. I have recently began my weight loss journey and I often come to your blog when I get discouraged.

This week, during my WW meeting, a lady mentioned that she had done all the right things but hadn't lost the weight. The leader encouraged her to measure herself because she may be losing inches, gaining muscle, and staying the same or seeing slight increase on the scale. Obviously, I'm no expert :) but I thought it was a very good suggestion. I think I may start measuring myself either bi-weekly or monthly just to add a little extra motivation!

Thinking of you! You are still doing an amazing job and you continue to be a super wonderful inspiration!!

  6. Hey, Krystle!

    Thank you so much!

I actually started to measure myself again (it had been a long time) the day after I wrote this blog post. I'm going to start doing it the last day of the every month. Thanks for the advice!

I pray that you do well on your weight-loss journey and reach your goal. :)
